HOWL (the “App”) is provided by The Bark Side Limited,
company no. 11791111, registered in England, with registered address 8 The
White House, High Street, Henley-in-Arden, B95 5GA. If you wish to contact us, please email us at
howl@howlforhelp.com
We take your privacy seriously, and our privacy policy is
simple: we do not ask you for your personal data, and we do not record or store
your activity. Everything that you input
into the App stays on your mobile device unless and until you choose to share
it with others.
The following aspects of the App operate as described
below.
Account You don’t need one. We ask you to input your telephone number as part of the setup process so that you can send and receive notifications in an emergency.
Images HOWL will ask for access to your camera and media library. This means that you can (i) add a photo of your dog and/or emergency contact within your pack (see below), and (ii) record evidence of what is happening (capturing video and audio footage) in the event that you need to activate a HOWL for help. You can then choose to share the video footage with the police or on social media, etc to help identify and bring an offender to justice. Please also see the section on Camera and Microphone Access below.
My Pack
The details of your dog(s) and emergency contact(s), including any images you choose to add, will
remain on your phone and are not stored on our server. We cannot access information or images that you input, nor would we want to. If you wish to
share information about a stolen dog, then you can export the information from
your device. Your emergency contact(s), and any images you've added to the App, cannot be exported, but you'll be able to share them from your phone book or media library as appropriate, which also applies to any video footage.
Date, Time and Location When you go for a walk and activate the App, it will
create a unique code which you share with your chosen emergency contact. That person can monitor your location in real
time, or can await notification that either the walk has ended or you have
HOWLed for help. Once the walk is over,
the code expires and cannot be reused. Each
walk requires a new code, and you can choose which emergency contact to share
it with, and by what means, on each occasion.
Only one contact may monitor each walk.
While using the App the date, time, battery percentage, and what3words
location will be shared with your contact. That data is not stored on our server, and only passes through it as a means to communicate with your
emergency contact. You can share data relating to the incident via our
Camera and Microphone Access
If an incident occurs and you HOWL for help, the App will
access your camera and microphone as a means to record events as they happen. The camera and microphone are not activated
unless and until you HOWL for help. The
recording will be stored on your mobile device only, and will not be accessible
by us. If you wish to share the
recording then you can do so by exporting the footage from your media library.
External Providers In order to function properly, the App integrates with some External Providers. The what3words integration is necessary for the what3words monitoring feed generated during a walk. We also integrate with Google for maps and notifications features.
Shopping on The Bark Side We don’t ask you to make in-App purchases. However, The Bark Side Limited also offers
dog toys for sale via its online shop, which you can access through the
App. If you choose to make a purchase
from The Bark Side’s website, it will be subject to separate terms and
conditions and privacy policy displayed on that website. In any event, The Bark Side will never sell
or share customer data.
